I devised the Theory of Quantitative Systems (Sipes, 2019) as a lens for considering the complexity of comprehending linear algebra. The theory resulted from a study of Duval’s (1999, 2006, 2017) Theory of Semiotic Representation Registers. With my theory I consider strictly algebraic contexts for systems of linear equations. This report discusses some of the theory’s details which may provide insights into challenges encountered in linear algebra courses.
